Robbie Shaver is a PhD candidate in the politics department at NSSR studying international relations and international political economy. His research focuses on nineteenth century international trade, and how legal instruments like most-favored-nation clauses created the world’s first free-trade regime and contributed to the constitution of a larger liberal international order. His other interests include early-modern state formation, the political economy of development, liberalism, and Korean studies. Prior to NSSR, Robbie studied at American University in Washington DC, Korea University in Seoul, South Korea, and St. John’s College in Annapolis MD.
