The Robert L. Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies is pleased to invite faculty in any discipline at the New School for Social Research to apply for a fellowship of up to $5660 to support research and writing during the 2018-2019 academic year (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019).
Proposals should provide a one-page explanation of the project’s engagement with capitalism as an analytic concept and/or as an object of social, political, or historical inquiry and critique. Successful applications will propose projects that aim to analyze and address real-world problems, generate visionary theoretical concepts, and/or advance long-term and global perspectives on capitalism as a major structuring force in contemporary society.
During the period of their fellowship, faculty will:
- participate in monthly work-in- progress sessions
- contribute to the Center’s graduate fellows’ symposium in the spring
- submit a working paper or Public Seminar posting about their research to post on the Center website before June 30, 2018
Submissions should include a timeline for the completion of the proposed work and a budget. We encourage applicants to request funding for graduate student research assistants. These may work for one semester for $2830, two semesters for $5660, or over the summer (a rate of $18.40/hour for no more than 10 hours/week).
Please email your proposal by June 8, 2018 to Academic Affairs at NSSRAcademicAffairs@newschool.edu
Questions can be addressed to Julia Ott, Associate Professor of Historical Studies and Co-Director of the Heilbroner Center, ottj@newschool.edu
