Zoe Cole is a graduate student in the Historical Studies department. She received two BAs in History and Philosophy from Penn State University. Her research focuses on the disparate political and social relations of the Jamaican Leeward and Windward Maroons in the eighteenth century. Her work investigates the development of the Leeward and Winward Maroons and their complex political actions against and in support of the Jamaican plantation regime. This work aims to uncover the Leeward and Windward maroons as dynamic communities and to trouble bifurcated narratives that cosign them as either traitors or heroes.
