Koray Çalışkan is Associate Professor of Politics at Bogazici University. He received his PhD with distinction from New York University and was awarded the Malcolm Kerr Social Science Award from the Middle East Studies Association.
His book, Market Threads: How Cotton Farmers and Traders Make Global Commodity (2010), analysed international trade and global commodity markets. Together with Michel Callon, he proposed a new framework for the socio-technical study of markets and economies. He has published more than twenty articles in various academic journals including Economy and Society, Sociological Review, and Journal of Cultural Economy.
Çalışkan also worked as a columnist for Radikal and BirGün newspapers and as a program host for Haberturk and +1TV in Turkey, frequently contributing to CNN International and BBC World. His current research focuses the socio-technical infrastructure of crypto-currency blockchains.
