I am a Professor of History at The New School for Social Research and co-Executive Editor of Public Seminar. My main expertise is in recent United States political and media history, gender and sexuality, and Internet Studies. I recently published Political Junkies: From Talk Radio to Twitter, How Alternative Media Hooked Us on Politics and Broke Our Democracy (Basic Books, 2020). In the fall of 2020, I am beginning a new project that explores the post-war history of American cable television, the evolution of broadcast capitalism, and the invention of infotainment.
