Faculty Research fellowships

The Robert L. Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies is pleased to invite faculty in any discipline at the New School to apply for a fellowship of up to $7,500 to support research and writing during the 2024-2025 academic year (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). 

 

Proposals should provide a one-page explanation of the project’s engagement with capitalism as an analytic concept and/or as an object of social, political, or historical inquiry and critique. Successful applications will propose projects that aim to analyze and address real-world problems, generate visionary theoretical concepts or advance long-term and global perspectives on capitalism as a major structuring force in contemporary society.  

 During the period of their fellowship, faculty will:

  • participate in our monthly work-in-progress sessions

  • present research in progress at one of these sessions 

  • participate in the Center’s graduate fellows’ symposium in the spring of 2025

  • submit a working paper or Public Seminar posting about their research to post on the Center website before June 30, 2025 

While not required, applicants are encouraged to use fellowship funding for graduate student research assistants.  These may work for one semester for $3,750, two semesters for $7,5000, or over the summer (a rate of $xx/hour for no more than 10 hours/week).

Student Research Fellowships

The Robert L. Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies is pleased to invite students in any discipline at the New School for Social Research to apply for a fellowship of up to $7,500 to support research and writing during the 2024-2025 academic year (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). 

 

Applications should include a short c.v. and a research proposals. Proposals should provide a one-page explanation of your research project’s engagement with capitalism as an analytic concept and/or as an object of social, political, or historical inquiry and critique. Successful applications will propose projects that aim to analyze and address real-world problems, generate visionary theoretical concepts or advance long-term and global perspectives on capitalism as a major structuring force in contemporary society.
